When you move a post to Posted in your Kanban board, Clue Labs prompts you to link it to the live Instagram post. You can select from your recent posts or paste the URL directly.
This step is optional. But it's one of the most valuable things you can do to improve the quality of everything Clue Labs generates for you going forward.
What linking a post actually does
When you link a published post to its brief, Clue Labs connects two things that would otherwise stay separate: the recommendation Sam made, and the real-world performance of the content created from it.
Without that link, Clue Labs knows your post went live but can't connect its performance data back to the specific brief, format, angle, and funnel stage that produced it. The loop stays open.
With the link, Clue Labs can see: Sam recommended this format, this angle, for this growth goal — and here's how it actually performed. That connection feeds back into the intelligence layer that powers your future campaign suggestions, your Next Suggestions, and your Clue Score.
In short: linking posts makes Sam smarter about your account specifically.
The compounding effect
The more posts you link over time, the more precise Clue Labs' understanding of your account becomes.
Early in your Clue Labs journey, Sam is working primarily from your historical post data and your brand profile. As you run campaigns, link posts, and accumulate performance data connected to specific brief types, Sam develops a much richer picture of what actually works for your audience — not just in general, but for your specific brand, your specific growth goals, and your specific content style.
This is what separates a Clue Labs account that's been used properly for six months from a brand new one. The data layer is deeper, the suggestions are more precise, and the output is more consistently on-brief.
How to link a post
When you move a post card to the Posted column on your Kanban board, a prompt will appear asking you to link the published post.
You can either:
Select from your recent posts — Clue Labs shows a grid of your most recent Instagram posts. Click the one that corresponds to this brief.
Paste the URL — if you prefer, paste the Instagram post URL directly into the field and click Save URL.
If you're not ready to link it yet — for example if the post hasn't gone live — you can skip the prompt and come back to it later via the Post Link field inside the post's detail view.
Common questions
Do I have to link posts for Clue Labs to work? No. Clue Labs works without linked posts. But linking them improves the quality of future suggestions over time. Think of it as optional but worth doing.
What if I forget to link a post? Open the post from your Kanban board or Calendar View and use the Post Link field to add the URL at any time. There's no deadline.
Can I link the same post to multiple briefs? No — each post brief should be linked to one published post. If you created content that draws from multiple briefs, link it to the brief it most closely followed.
Does linking posts share my performance data with anyone else? No. Your performance data is yours. It's used only to improve Clue Labs' recommendations for your account specifically.
